This story portrays an aristocrat, a known dandy, who is obsessed by his passion between his beautiful fiancé, a young and innocent girl, and his older mistress. There is a grand wedding with all the high society in attendance. During his vacation at the sea shore, he meets again with his ancient mistress. Passion dominates their encounters. He then returns to Paris, to Boulevard St. Germain. Though the clashes between the rich and the poor have a prominent tone in the story, the main theme is passion. In short, the struggle between a dandy's pure love for his wife and the carnal passion for his mistress led to a series of mishaps that had serious consequences. It finally ends in a tragic duel and death.
