| After Pierre
Bataille completed his masterpiece, "the Bayeux Tapestry in Wood", he was
inspired to continue working in the mode of "bas relief". Bataille
estimates he spends his time almost equally between research, drawing and
sculpting. Jacques Cartier's exploration of Canada was a subject
worthy of his art. Choosing the events that were most compelling to
him he began preparations by passionately drawing, then carving a series of low-relief
panels: 8 oak panel each 8 Feet 2 inches by 1 Foot 8 inches. In them, Bataille faithfully depicts the heroic enterprises of Jacques Cartier
and his men on their first
voyage to the new lands of Canada. To view, click on panel.
