                     WELCOME

This site is dedicated to introducing the works of Pierre Bataille, a world famous sculptor.  His Bayeux Tapestry in wood, is one of the great works of art ever produced in Europe.  He is a native of Normandy, France.  His most renowned works have immortalized significant moments of history that have changed Europe and the New World forever.

Bataille specializes in "bas relief", a French term meaning "low raised work", an ancient art form from prehistoric times...it can be seen primarily from one direction.  You will note the precision, the care, the utmost detail that goes into his work, the expressions and gestures that  give life to his characters.  We invite you to enjoy the uniqueness of these masterly "narratives" carved in wood.

On this site, you will learn that Pierre Bataille has worked with just about every material imaginable.  He has the unique ability of shaping granite and marble into life-size statues, of carving oak panels, with unrelenting patience, into scenes of world history.  His monumental "bas relief" sculptures stand as a strong contrast to his contemporary works, notably his modern sculptures.

Though Pierre's achievements have been internationally acclaimed, he is still, after nearly 50 years of sculpting, a struggling artist living on the barest of means.  Like many great artists before him, he must rely on people or governments who patronize the arts.  France has, in some respects, abandoned him for it seems that French Museums, a custom in France, will not display the works of artists until after their demise.  Though to be fair, they acknowledge the very young exceptional rare talent.

The monumental nature of Pierre's works make them especially fit for museums, corporate offices, public buildings and private collections of art connoisseurs.  Many of these splendid wood carvings are for sale.  On this site, you will also see some of Pierre's smaller, miscellaneous  pieces commissioned by his clients for their own private collection.

Pierre is readily available for commissions or projects that you may have in mind  to enhance your own environment.  No commission is too large nor too small for Pierre’s talents.  We encourage you to contact Pierre Bataille with whatever work of art that interests you for your own private collection.   Just click the CONTACT US button to the left.
